THE GUERRERO PROJECT HOMEWARD BOUND

THE GUERRERO PROJECT HOMEWARD BOUND image

Greetings,

As we approach the final stages of our joint effort to retell the epic and historic narrative of the Guerrero Slave shipwreck, I would like to invite you to reflect on the significance of our upcoming trip to Liberia.

The story of the Guerrero, which sank off the Florida coast on December 19, 1827, while carrying over 561 Africans to Cuba and being pursued by the Royal British Navy ship, the Nimble, is a powerful reminder of the resilience and struggles of those who were forcefully taken from their homeland. As you know, 41 Africans tragically drowned, entrapped in the hold of the sunken ship. This trip to Liberia represents not only a symbolic return but also an essential step in honoring the memory of those lost and understanding the broader implications of this history on both sides of the Atlantic. Please consider a small donation to DWP efforts to bring closure to the descendants of Guerrero.
